Fragile Beasts (2026). Limited edition of 35 prints.
The good folks at PARDICOLOR got in contact with me a while back to collaborate on a print for their organisation. They've been involved in a number of projects, mainly throughout Asia. Since I've spent most of my adult life in the mountains around the Western Cape in South Africa, I felt strongly about a few projects we have going on locally, like the Cape Leopard Trust and the Black Harrier Project, so we got in contact with them and they were onboard.

The drawing includes a number of other threatened species from this fragile zone, like the Cape Rockjumper, one of my favourite birds and the Clanwilliam Ceder tree. There are 2 very scarce butterflies (The Cederberg Silver Arrowhead and the Cederberg Scarce Silver-spotted Copper) The plants are all part of the delicate fynbos ecosystem and includes amongst it the critically endangered Leucadendron-levisanus.
Then of course, the Cape Leopard and the Black Harrier. Both beautiful apex predators, fighting for survival.

You can't help but notice the impact we as humans have on the environment when you spend time on top of mountains, looking down, over decades. You literally get another perspective. Even though I cherish the time I get to spend there I also understand the fragility of these spaces and how easy it is for us to cause irreversible damage. This drawing does little to honour the immense diversity of life out there but it's meant to draw some attention to our role and hopefully set in motion positive action.

100% of profits from the sale of this print will support the work of the Black Harrier Task Force, through the Overberg Renosterveld Trust, and the Cape Leopard Trust.
